Tempo Brings Open USD Stablecoin to Payments-Focused Blockchain
Tempo, a payments-focused blockchain incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, plans to issue Open USD (OUSD), a stablecoin designed for businesses, natively on its Layer 1 blockchain. This integration aims to place OUSD on infrastructure built around stablecoin payment flows, supporting features such as stablecoin-denominated fees, payment-specific metadata, and a stable-asset decentralized exchange.
The planned deployment of OUSD on Tempo would extend the stablecoin's use across a network specifically designed for payment-related activity. Businesses will be able to mint and redeem OUSD without fees or artificial volume limits, with partners potentially receiving reserve earnings minus a small management fee for operating costs.
Open Standard announced OUSD on June 30 as a stablecoin for global money movement, with over 140 businesses having joined the project. Participating companies include Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, American Express, BlackRock, BNY Mellon, Coinbase, Tempo, Solana, Base, and Bridge.
