Tether Brings USDT to Bitcoin with RGB Infrastructure Rollout
Tether's USDT stablecoin is making a major move to Bitcoin, and it could have significant implications for the cryptocurrency market. According to Paolo Ardoino, Tether CEO, USDT will be issued natively on Bitcoin through RGB (Radix Blockchain Gateway). This means that users will be able to hold and transfer both Bitcoin and USDT from the same wallet.
RGB's architecture is unique because it uses client-side validation, which means that participants validate contract history relevant to their assets rather than requiring every network node to store and validate the complete contract state. Contract data remains off-chain, but compact cryptographic commitments are anchored to Bitcoin, while single-use seals tied to Bitcoin UTXOs help establish ownership transitions and prevent the same state from being reused.
This approach allows Tether to issue USDT on Bitcoin without creating a new blockchain of its own, which could be a significant advantage. As Ardoino noted, 'Bitcoin deserves a stablecoin that feels truly native, lightweight, private, and scalable.'
