Tether Buys $600M in Farmland as Part of Reserve Strategy
Tether, the issuer of the world's largest stablecoin, has made a significant investment in farmland as part of its reserve strategy. The company acquired majority control of Adecoagro, a South American farming conglomerate with over 200,000 hectares of land across Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay.
The deal was valued at around $600 million, following an initial $100 million stake bought in 2024. Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, framed the acquisition as part of a strategy to diversify its holdings and hedge against systemic instability.
Tether already holds billions in gold and Bitcoin (BTC), which it considers hedges against dollar debasement and inflation. The company also plans to use the farmland's renewable energy to power Bitcoin mining.
