Tether Diversifies with Surprise Agricultural Investment
The Tether company, issuer of the world's largest stablecoin USDT, has taken an unexpected step in preparing for the worst-case scenario in global finance. With a $600 million investment, Tether has acquired a 70% stake in Adecoagro, a South American agricultural giant.
This move adds hundreds of thousands of hectares of arable land, livestock, and sugarcane plantations to Tether's portfolio, taking diversification to a new level. According to Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, this decision is part of the company's long-term defense strategy in response to growing global macroeconomic uncertainty.
Ardoino explained that with nearly 100,000 Bitcoins and over 148 tons of physical gold stored in Swiss vaults, the third pillar of their strategy is now a finite, tangible resource: land. This will retain its real value even if traditional financial systems are disrupted.
Tether's agricultural presence is not just about passive wealth preservation but also creates direct technological synergies within its ecosystem. The company plans to use renewable energy generated from sugarcane waste to power its Brazilian Bitcoin mining infrastructure, effectively converting physical agriculture into digital assets.
