Tether Engages Big Four Firm for First Full Independent Audit
Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has made a significant move towards greater financial transparency by engaging a Big Four accounting firm to conduct its first full independent audit.
The company's Chief Executive Paolo Ardoino said the move reflects efforts to align Tether with higher standards of financial scrutiny, while Chief Financial Officer Simon McWilliams noted that the firm was selected following a competitive process.
The audit will cover Tether's full financial statements, moving beyond the periodic attestations that have been standard practice across the stablecoin sector. It is expected to examine Tether's reserves, liabilities, and internal controls at a level of scrutiny typically associated with large global financial institutions.
The company has faced questions over the composition and backing of its reserves, which have a market capitalization exceeding $184 billion. A full audit could address some of these concerns by providing independent verification of Tether's financial position.
