Tether Freezes Over $550 Million in Iran-Linked USDT Amid Sanctions Crackdown
Tether has confirmed that it helped U.S. law enforcement and sanctions authorities freeze around $550 million in Iran-linked USDT in 2026.
The move comes as the U.S. tightens sanctions on Iran's financial networks, putting stablecoins under closer watch.
Tether says its actions have helped freeze around $474 million in USDT linked to Iran's Central Bank and sanctioned networks through two major actions: one in April 2026 that froze over $344 million and another in July 2026 that froze more than $130 million.
The remaining roughly $75 million was frozen through smaller actions between January and September 2026, bringing the total to around $550 million.
