Tether Freezes Over Half a Billion Dollars Tied to Iranian Sanctions Networks
Tether has been at the forefront of efforts to freeze illicit funds tied to Iranian sanctions networks. The company has cooperated with U.S. authorities, freezing nearly $550 million in USDT this year.
According to Tether, its cooperation covers thousands of investigations worldwide. In April, it froze $344 million across two wallets linked to Iran's Central Bank, which were later added to the sanctions list by OFAC.
In July, Tether froze another $130 million in four TRON wallets after the Treasury expanded its designation. The combined freezes reached $550 million during 2026.
Tether also worked with Israel's counterterrorism financing authorities on Iran-linked networks, helping to freeze $22 million across over 40 cases involving hundreds of addresses.
