Tether Soars to $200 Billion Amid Controversy and Allegations
Reeve Collins, Craig Sellars, and Brock Pierce launched Realcoin in 2014 from a Santa Monica bungalow. The trio pitched their dollar-pegged cryptocurrency to Silicon Valley investors but were laughed out of the room.
The cast behind Realcoin was questionable: Sellars was the only software engineer, Collins was notorious for his pop-up ads, and Pierce was a former child actor with ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Tether, rebranded from Realcoin, has since achieved phenomenal success. The project is now worth $200 billion, making it more valuable than Disney, Boeing, or BlackRock. Its token, USDT, is the most traded cryptocurrency in the world.
