Thai Regulators Ease Path to Crypto Derivatives
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed rule changes to make it easier for licensed digital asset firms to access derivatives licenses. The proposal would allow applications to be filed within existing corporate structures, reducing the cost and complexity of entering Thailand's regulated derivatives market.
The current rules require firms to establish separate legal entities to access derivatives licensing, which can be a barrier to entry. The SEC's goal is to expand investor access to hedging tools and portfolio management instruments.
The proposal also includes new requirements for managing conflicts of interest for firms operating across both digital asset and derivatives activities. Standards for derivatives exchanges and clearing houses would be brought in line with international benchmarks.
