Thailand Offers Five-Year Tax Reprieve for Crypto Traders on Licensed Platforms

Share

Thailand's Finance Ministry has announced a five-year tax exemption for cryptocurrency trading profits. The measure applies exclusively to transactions conducted through exchanges, brokers, and dealers licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and is effective from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2029.

The exemption covers capital gains realized from trading digital assets on regulated platforms. However, other forms of crypto-related income, including mining rewards and staking yields, remain subject to taxation under existing Thai tax laws.

The policy aims to encourage formal participation in the crypto market by reducing the tax burden on trading activities. It also aligns with Thailand's broader efforts to position itself as a regional hub for digital assets, while maintaining oversight through licensed intermediaries.
