THORChain Refuses to Block Hacker Addresses Amid Bitget Hack Fallout

Bitget's CEO Gracy Chen has asked THORChain to block hacker addresses linked to the recent $387.5 million hack, but the protocol rejected the request due to its permissionless design.

The hackers used THORChain to swap stolen funds into native Bitcoin (BTC) and spread them across thousands of private wallets, making it harder to track and recover the funds.

Bitget CEO Gracy Chen argued that decentralization should not prevent networks from responding to known stolen funds, but THORChain said blocking selected transactions would go against its system's design principles.
