Treasury Shift Could Be Explosive Catalyst for Bitcoin
Sean Farrell, head of digital assets at investment research firm Fundstrat, says that a shift in the U.S. Treasury's funding approach could have a significant impact on Bitcoin prices. In an upcoming announcement on November 2, the Treasury is expected to outline its plans for raising funds, and Farrell believes that a reduction in long-term bond issuance and a shift to short-term Treasury bills could provide a powerful catalyst for Bitcoin.
According to Farrell, this change in funding strategy would create more liquidity in private markets, leading to currency debasement, which is precisely the environment that drives Bitcoin prices higher. He notes that the U.S. national debt-to-GDP ratio has surpassed 120%, and the 10-year Treasury yield has climbed to its highest level since 2007.
Farrell also warns that investors should remain vigilant, as the market could trade sideways or undergo a correction in the near term if rate volatility doesn't settle into a stable trajectory. He notes that over 80% of tokens are now trading above their 200-day moving averages, which he interprets as a warning sign rather than a confirmation of further upside.
Farrell also highlights the potential for DeFi tokens to enter a parabolic phase, with Solana, Aave, Uniswap, Aerodrome, and Kamino being potential beneficiaries. He notes that these tokens have significantly outperformed Bitcoin in recent months, with Uniswap rising over 189% since early April.
