Trezor's Clear Signing Aims to Boost Security for DeFi Users

Starting September 7, 2026, Trezor introduced its flagship security feature, Clear Signing, which translates complex contract data into readable information on the device display for supported Ethereum contracts. This change marks a shift away from blind signing, where users would approve transactions without understanding their content.

The new feature is part of an open standard called ERC-7730, which provides a uniform rule for wallets to translate contract data into plain text. The register of description files, which determines what contracts are supported, is growing rapidly, with around 28% more published files between May and July 2026.

At launch, the feature only covers two out of the twenty largest Ethereum applications by capital deposited, namely Lido with $23.90 billion and Aave in its third version with $14.58 billion. This represents a significant portion of DeFi capital, but leaves many other major players, including Uniswap and Curve, uncovered.

The introduction of Clear Signing is expected to increase security and transparency for users, as it requires them to inspect the contract details before approving transactions. While this change may seem minor, it has the potential to make a significant impact on user behavior and reduce the risk of costly mistakes.
