Trump Agrees to Crypto Ethics Provisions as BitMEX Announces Shutdown

Share

US President Donald Trump has agreed to include ethics provisions in the CLARITY Act, a crypto market structure bill that could advance to a Senate vote as early as this week. The provisions would bar federal officials from profiting from digital assets while in office.

The bill's text is expected to be released soon, and if it passes the Senate, it will need to return to the House of Representatives for review before being sent to the president for signature.

BitMEX has announced that it will shut down on September 23 after failing to find a buyer. The exchange, which pioneered perpetual swap contracts, has suspended new user registrations and will begin blocking new position openings on August 26.
