Trump-Backed Crypto Venture Secures $750 Million in Funding Despite Investor Losses
ALT5 Sigma Corp., a small blockchain and digital-payments company, has made a significant pivot in its strategy by buying virtual tokens issued by World Liberty Financial. The deal gives World Liberty an ownership role and board influence at ALT5 Sigma while the company raises $750 million from investors, including Point72 and ExodusPoint.
The arrangement was announced last summer after Bloomberg first reported on it, but the details of the deal have only recently come to light. As part of the agreement, Zach Witkoff, a member of the Trump family's crypto venture, is appointed as chairman of ALT5 Sigma.
This move highlights the risks involved in token-linked financing structures in the digital-assets sector. Despite prior losses for outside investors, ALT5 was able to attract institutional funding via the Trump-backed crypto platform.
