Trump-Backed White House Crypto Meeting Boosts Hopes for CLARITY Act Passage
President Donald Trump's White House crypto meeting on Wednesday has raised hopes for the passage of the CLARITY Act, which would provide regulatory clarity for digital assets. Analyst John Gillan believes the market is underestimating the chances of the bill passing in 2026.
The SEC had scheduled an open meeting to discuss regulatory accommodations for digital assets and tokenization but canceled it just hours before, citing a scheduling conflict without offering a new date. Trump's response was to call his own White House meeting, which Gillan sees as supportive of the CLARITY Act.
Gillan argued that the market is assigning less than a 10% chance to the CLARITY Act passing in 2026, down from Galaxy Digital's previous estimate of 75%. He believes Trump halted the SEC's effort to offer regulatory clarity through legislation and instead called for a compromise on the bill.
The Democrats have tied their support to ethics provisions requiring the Trump family to exit the crypto industry entirely. Whether Wednesday's meeting produces movement on this question is what Gillan is watching. 'A bill dies nine times before it passes,' Gillan said, adding that 'this is far from dead.'
