Trump Considers Treasury Secretary as Next AI Czar Amid AI Risk Concerns

US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as his next artificial intelligence (AI) czar, sources have revealed. This comes after Trump announced plans for an 'AI Force' amid growing concerns about AI's risks.

Bessent is said to be a frontrunner for the position alongside other candidates including White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor, a former managing partner of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

However, a White House spokesperson dismissed the reports as 'baseless speculation', suggesting that any personnel decisions have not yet been officially announced by the administration. Trump previously tapped David Sacks as his AI and crypto czar before he stepped down earlier this year after reaching his service limit as a special government employee.

The development comes amidst Trump's plans for an 'AI Force' which he announced on September 19 through his Truth Social post, but provided little detail about its scope or objectives.
