Trump Family Business Empire Faces Congressional Scrutiny
The Trump family business empire may face scrutiny from Congress if Democrats win control of either chamber in the upcoming midterm elections. According to Reuters, Democratic lawmakers and their staff are planning inquiries into cryptocurrency ventures linked to Donald Trump, his son's investment company 1789 Capital, corporate donors who have supported a White House ballroom, and other business activities involving members of the president's family.
Senators Richard Blumenthal and Adam Schiff have expressed interest in investigating these matters. Blumenthal stated that Democrats would use their subpoena power to obtain cooperation from companies linked to Trump. Rep. Jamie Raskin from Maryland has pointed out a $620 million loan from the Pentagon to Vulcan Elements, which was announced after 1789 Capital had invested in the company.
The Trump administration has dismissed these claims as politically motivated and designed to hinder Trump's agenda. Some lawmakers have warned that focusing on Trump's personal and business affairs could lead to voter resentment. Companies linked to Trump are preparing for potential investigations by hiring lawyers and crisis communication firms.
