Trump Family-Linked World Liberty Financial Wins Conditional Approval for National Trust Bank Charter
World Liberty Financial (CRYPTO: WLFI), a cryptocurrency platform co-founded by members of President Donald Trump's family, has secured conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a national trust bank charter through World Liberty Trust Co.
The approval would allow the firm to issue stablecoins directly, moving away from third-party provider BitGo (NYSE: BTGO).
Stablecoins are pegged to assets like U.S. Treasuries and redeemable one-to-one for dollars.
World Liberty Financial is 38% owned by an entity linked to President Trump and his family, according to the company.
The charter approval comes as the firm's broader expansion has hit turbulence, with a token tied to a Trump-branded Maldives resort reportedly delayed due to the Iran war disrupting travel across the region.
