Trump Taps Jay Clayton as Leader of New AI Task Force
President Donald Trump has created a 'Super Intelligence Force', a task force aimed at coordinating the federal government's efforts to stay ahead in artificial intelligence. The group will be led by Jay Clayton, who previously served as the SEC Chair and was responsible for the agency's regulation-by-enforcement approach towards crypto. Clayton brought 57 cases against crypto firms and ICOs during his tenure.
The Super Intelligence Force will also include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The task force's mandate is to coordinate federal engagement with various stakeholders, including consumers, public interest groups, and AI companies.
Clayton's appointment as the leader of the Super Intelligence Force is notable, given his history with crypto regulation. He previously sued Ripple for $1.3 billion, alleging that the company sold XRP as an unregistered security. The case became a template for many of the lawsuits Gary Gensler's SEC later brought against major token issuers and exchanges.
