Trump's Crypto Bank Nears Launch with Conditional OCC Approval for USD1 Stablecoin
World Liberty Financial, backed by Donald Trump's family, has taken a significant step towards opening its crypto bank. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has granted preliminary conditional approval for World Liberty Trust Company to become a federally chartered national trust bank focused on the USD1 stablecoin.
With this approval, World Liberty can bring stablecoin issuance, reserve management, and digital asset custody under its own federally supervised institution. The company currently relies on outside companies, such as BitGo, for these services.
The conditional approval is a significant development for World Liberty's USD1 stablecoin, which has grown to $4 billion in circulation and $469 million in daily trading volume. However, the bank still needs to satisfy several regulatory requirements before receiving final authorization to begin operations.
