Trump's Crypto Conflict of Interest Dashes Industry Hopes for Clarity Act

Share

The cryptocurrency industry's hopes for a bill to establish its place in the financial system were dashed when President Donald Trump's conflict of interest killed the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.

The bill, which had been supported by a dozen Democrats and Republicans, would have given the crypto industry favorable regulatory and legal footing. However, it was unable to pass due to concerns over Trump's personal profiteering from digital assets.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) highlighted the issue, stating that 'Donald Trump has enriched himself at such a grotesque level, it's hard to see the sun around that.'

The bill had faced opposition from both Democrats and Republicans. While some Democrats were concerned about Trump's conflict of interest, others, like Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), argued that the issue was not with the bill itself but with 'Democrat hatred for President Trump.'
