Trump's Crypto Empire Inflicts $4.7B Losses on Investors
US President Donald Trump's crypto projects have inflicted significant losses on investors. According to an analysis by Public Citizen, investors lost at least $4.7 billion in unrealized and realized losses across four main products: TRUMP, WLFI, Trump Media's digital treasury, and Trump Digital Trading Cards.
The largest share of the estimated losses is tied to the TRUMP memecoin, launched on January 17, 2025. The token's price surged to an all-time high of $73.43 on January 19 but fell to $1.37 by August 13, 2026. At the time of analysis, the token was trading at around $2.22.
Investors who bought TRUMP during its first two days captured nearly 90% of the profits, while those who bought later lost about $3.2 billion. A separate example was AI Financial Corporation, which bought 7.28 billion WLFI tokens in May 2025 at $0.20 per token.
Trump Media's digital treasury also incurred significant losses, with a decline of about $450 million from its initial value. The company raised $2.44 billion to build its crypto treasury and allocated over $1 billion to buy bitcoin and other crypto assets.
