Trump's Cryptocurrency Windfall: Net Worth Skyrockets Amid Controversy
US President Donald Trump has seen his net worth skyrocket in the last two years, surpassing his combined wealth for the previous sixty. According to reports, Trump's personal wealth grew by a staggering 183% between 2024 and 2026.
The majority of this growth comes from cryptocurrency, with Trump earning a significant portion through a 1% to 5% transfer fee on transactions involving his 'Official Trump' ($TRUMP) meme coin. Launched in January 2025, the coin initially held a valuation of £11.26 billion but has since dropped by 97% to £339 million.
Trump maintains that all dealings are legal, citing that his business operations are managed by sons Eric and Don Jr. A White House spokesperson dismissed allegations of conflicts of interest, stating that Trump's assets are held in 'fully discretionary accounts' managed by independent third-party financial institutions.
The surge in Trump's wealth has led to the drafting of the CLARITY Act, which aims to establish regulations for cryptocurrencies used by federal elected officials or their immediate family members.
