Turkey Cracks Down on Massive Investment Fraud Network Linked to Israel
Turkish authorities have detained 191 people, including nine Israelis, in connection with a massive international investment fraud network operating from Turkey. The operation, carried out by security forces, involved multiple government agencies and Interpol.
The alleged scheme used call centers and fake forex and cryptocurrency platforms to lure investors into transferring funds, promising high returns. When victims tried to withdraw their money, their accounts were 'blocked' and extra payments were demanded for taxes or unblocking fees.
The network is estimated to have defrauded victims worldwide of over $3 billion. Authorities seized assets valued at 1.5 billion Turkish lira (26.7 million euros) from the detainees.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched a fierce attack on Israel, accusing 'the Zionist massacre network' of being behind the fraud. The Israeli Foreign Ministry said it was working to ensure that the rights of its citizens were protected.
