U.S. Crypto Regulation Bill Faces Possible Delay Amid Congressional Logjam

The U.S. CLARITY bill, which aims to codify digital asset regulation into law, is facing a possible delay due to congressional priorities and ongoing bipartisan negotiations.

According to Bitcoin Magazine, Congress is prioritizing other legislation ahead of its five-week recess, which begins later this week, potentially pushing back the vote on the cryptocurrency bill. The bill passed the House last year with bipartisan support, but deadlock has persisted in the Senate.

The key point of contention is ethics provisions, particularly language that would bar government officials and their families from issuing or promoting cryptocurrencies. Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren argued that this provision is necessary to prevent corruption and protect against conflicts of interest, citing concerns over President Donald Trump's business interests and meme coins.

However, pro-crypto Republicans like Senator Cynthia Lummis have criticized Democrats for intentionally delaying the bill's progress. Backlash from the banking sector also remains an obstacle, with bank lobbyists raising concerns about stablecoin interest income and its potential impact on banks' deposit base.
