U.S. Prosecutors Freeze $84 Million in Capstone Accounts Linked to Tether and Bitfinex

Share

U.S. federal prosecutors have frozen approximately $84 million in accounts linked to Montana-based payments group Capstone, widening scrutiny of payment channels used for crypto-related banking access.

The case also exposes continuing difficulties for Tether and Bitfinex in securing mainstream banking services, despite their role in global digital asset markets.

Capstone moved over $700 million through its Wells Fargo business account between March and December 2025, with $337 million payouts mostly benefiting Tether- and Bitfinex-linked entities.
