U.S. Treasury Sanctions Russia-Linked A7 Network Over $17 Billion in Illicit Crypto and Fiat Transfers
The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned the Russia-linked A7 Network, accusing it of helping to move illicit funds for Russia, Iran, and other actors. The network's Sub-Agents processed over $17 billion in transactions between January 2025 and June 2026, according to FinCEN.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated A7 Network as a transnational criminal organization, blocking its U.S.-based property and assets. The network's Sub-Agents used custom virtual private networks to hide their location while accessing bank accounts, and created false trade records and fake product descriptions to disguise the payments.
FinCEN found that Sub-Agents operated in countries including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Seychelles, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the goal is to cut off financial infrastructure used by U.S. adversaries.
