Uber Tests Blockchain for Higher Weekend Investment Returns

Share

Uber Technologies Inc. has become the latest company to experiment with blockchain technology for corporate investing, joining financial giants HSBC and Franklin Templeton in a pilot program. The ride-hailing firm used a public blockchain to invest its corporate funds, enabling it to trade on a weekend and capture higher returns. By purchasing a Franklin Templeton tokenized money market fund on a Thursday and selling it on Sunday, Uber was able to earn an extra 1.5 days of yield compared to traditional Friday sell-offs.

The setup involved HSBC tokenized deposits, which represent bank funds as digital tokens on a blockchain. This innovative approach allowed Uber to bypass the limitations of traditional banking hours and market closures. The company's success in this pilot program suggests that more firms may adopt similar blockchain-based investing strategies in the coming months.

This development highlights the growing interest in blockchain technology for financial transactions, offering companies new ways to optimize their investment returns. The collaboration between Uber, HSBC, and Franklin Templeton demonstrates the potential for blockchain to streamline corporate investing and enhance yield capture.
