UK and US Tighten Noose on Stablecoin Issuers: Compliance Imperative Takes Center Stage
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and US Department of the Treasury are tightening their grip on stablecoin issuers, mandating robust infrastructure and cybersecurity measures to ensure compliance.
The FCA's authorisation gateway for cryptoassets and stablecoins opens on September 30, 2026, while the US Treasury has finalised anti-money laundering (AML) enforcement under the GENIUS Act.
Stablecoin issuers must now deploy technical capabilities such as automated secondary-market transaction blocking, cryptographic key governance, and operational resilience across hybrid financial networks to meet regulatory standards.
The threat vector has shifted off-chain, with recent threat intelligence showing a pronounced shift toward operational and integration vectors, including payment gateway API spoofing, custody and key exfiltration, and oracle manipulation.
