UK Crypto Regime Application Gateway Opens September 30
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is opening its application gateway for the country's new crypto regime on September 30, 2026. This marks a significant step towards implementing the new regulatory framework, which will take effect on October 25, 2027.
Crypto firms operating in the UK will need to obtain FCA authorisation under the new regime, moving away from the current anti-money-laundering registration framework. The change requires businesses to demonstrate governance, financial resources, operational resilience, controls, and senior-management responsibilities.
The application window runs through February 28, 2027, giving firms a fairly long runway but not an unlimited one. Smaller firms may face a harder decision: build the compliance operation needed to become authorised or restructure their services.
