The UK has introduced sweeping sanctions targeting individuals and entities supporting Russia's war efforts, focusing on oil production, financial evasion, and military supply chains.
Thirty-eight new designations include Russian oil companies like Zarubezhneft and INK Capital, which account for over 90% of Russia's total oil production capacity. The sanctions also extend to 12 shadow fleet oil tankers, bringing the total to over 600. These vessels are part of an illicit oil trading network that uses deceptive practices to evade sanctions.
The UK is also cracking down on financial evasion, sanctioning three crypto exchanges and two payment platforms suspected of helping Russia bypass financial restrictions. These platforms are linked to the Kremlin-backed A7 network, which reportedly moved over $90 billion last year, roughly half of Russia's annual military expenditure.
Additionally, 17 entities and individuals involved in supplying goods critical to Russia's war effort, such as machine tools and electronics, have been targeted. These supplies are essential for producing ballistic missiles and drones, providing material benefits to Russia's military operations.
