UK FCA Opens Crypto License Applications Amid Regulatory Overhaul
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened up crypto license applications, setting a deadline of February 28, 2027 for existing firms to apply. The new regime is set to take effect on October 25, 2027.
The FCA will be evaluating each applicant in four key areas: consumer protection, customer asset safeguarding, market integrity, and financial resilience. Firms that fall short in these areas will not be authorized and won't be able to offer regulated crypto services in the UK.
According to Dominic Cashman, the FCA's director of authorization, 'The UK's new crypto regime will give consumers greater protections and firms a clear framework to operate in.' Firms can request pre-application support meetings before filing their applications, and webinars on the rules are available on demand.
