UK Plummets into Top Three Crypto Attack Hotspots Amid Bitcoin Bull Run
Bitcoin's recent price surge has brought unwanted attention from criminals. According to data from Jameson Lopp, a Bitcoin security researcher, physical attacks on crypto holders have increased globally, with the UK ranking third behind France and the US.
The UK has recorded 24 publicly known physical attacks involving crypto holders, while France has seen a sharp surge in attacks, with 41 incidents reported during the first nine months of 2026. This is almost three times the number reported in the same period last year.
Chainalysis linked much of France's recent surge to the exposure of personal information due to data breaches and tax officials selling sensitive information on wealthy crypto owners.
The attacks have also increasingly involved relatives, with over 40% of French incidents targeting a family member or associate rather than the crypto holder directly.
