UK Regulators Unveil Guidance on Cryptoasset Regulations Ahead of 2027 Deadline
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has released guidance on the scope of application for new regulations on cryptoassets. The new rules, set to come into effect on October 25, 2027, will require certain activities related to cryptoassets to be licensed by the FCA.
The guidance outlines which activities will be subject to regulation, including the issuance of qualifying stablecoins in the UK, operating cryptoasset trading platforms, and arranging or advising on cryptoasset investments. The FCA emphasizes that businesses must prepare for these new regulations and obtain necessary licenses before October 2027.
David Geale, Executive Director at the FCA, stated that the organization aims to build a reliable regulatory framework for cryptoassets, benefiting both businesses and consumers. He added that understanding how the regulations apply is key to preparation and that this guidance provides clarity for businesses.
