Ukraine Shuts Down $1M Crypto Scam Network Across 20 Countries

Share

Ukrainian authorities have taken down a large-scale cryptocurrency scam network that allegedly generated up to $1 million per month in turnover. The operation, which spanned more than 20 countries, involved fake investment platforms that used crypto wallet drainers to steal digital assets from victims.

The scammers would display artificial investment gains to convince users their cryptocurrency holdings were increasing, but problems emerged when users attempted to withdraw their funds. To extract the funds, operators instructed victims to connect their primary crypto wallets and approve what appeared to be a small test transaction. However, malicious software embedded in the websites transferred cryptocurrency to wallets controlled by the scammers.

Authorities believe a 25-year-old IT specialist organized the operation and recruited over 46 Ukrainian citizens. The group allegedly maintained several offices in Kyiv and the surrounding region, with technical staff responsible for developing and operating the fraudulent investment websites.
