Umia Secures $6.1 Million in Token Auction at $18 Million Valuation
Umia, a crypto launch platform, has successfully raised $6.11 million in a seven-day token auction, achieving an $18 million valuation. The auction involved the sale of 17.3 million UMIA tokens out of a total supply of 49.7 million, representing 34.6% of the total tokens. Notably, the tokens were issued in a liquid form without any lockup periods, which resulted in a large initial circulation. This approach contrasts with traditional token launches that typically start with a limited supply and experience significant unlocks later.
Institutional investors played a significant role in the auction, contributing approximately 45% of the capital. Prominent participants included Galaxy Ventures, Digital Currency Group, Draper Associates, and Maven 11, along with nearly 700 individual bidders. Interestingly, institutional buyers received the same terms as other participants, without gaining any board seats or advisory positions.
Post-auction, the UMIA token traded around $0.68. The immediate liquidity created by the large initial circulation could boost short-term trading activity but might also exert downward pressure on the token's price and its adoption in DeFi and centralized exchanges.
