Upbit Flags MultiversX After Mainnet Exploit Attempt Causes Network Pause
A South Korean exchange called Upbit has placed a warning on MultiversX (EGLD) after a mainnet security incident led to an exploit attempt. The network was paused due to invalid state changes caused by the attempted exploitation of a virtual-machine-level atomicity issue.
The team behind MultiversX prepared a software fix through a shadow fork, allowing developers to reproduce mainnet conditions without immediately applying changes to the live network. Deployment will proceed 'subject to successful testing' and require coordination with validators, exchanges, and infrastructure providers.
EGLD deposits and withdrawals remain suspended on Upbit, with plans to reopen withdrawals before deposits. The exchange's review period for EGLD trading support runs from September 21 through October 23, with a decision window set for October 19-23. If the underlying security concerns are not fully resolved, trading support may be terminated.
