Uphold Rolls Out Digital Assets Inheritance for BTC, XRP, and HBAR Holders
Uphold has launched a new service called Vault Inheritance, which allows users to pass on their digital assets to beneficiaries after death. The service is available for Bitcoin (BTC), XRP, and HBAR, and is designed to address the problem of how to transfer control of digital assets after a user's passing. Unlike traditional inheritance, where a beneficiary can simply take control of the assets, digital assets require cryptographic control to move them, which can be difficult to transfer.
Vault Inheritance is built on top of Uphold's Vault system, which is a 2-of-3 multisignature wallet that allows users to keep their assets safe while still allowing for trading and other functions without leaving the app. With Vault Inheritance, a user can invite a beneficiary to inherit their assets, and the beneficiary will only be able to access the assets after the user's death and after submitting official records such as a certified death certificate or probate order.
Nancy Beaton, Uphold's president of consumer, noted that digital assets have become a significant part of many people's wealth, but there are few tools available to pass them on securely. She stated that 'digital assets have become part of how many people build wealth, yet few simple tools exist to pass them on securely, especially for XRP holders.'
