US Army Commits $2.2B to Small Nuclear Reactors for Military Bases
The US Army is set to invest $2.2 billion in small nuclear reactors for five military bases through its newly announced Janus Program.
The program aims to deploy microreactors at Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Fort Hood, Fort Benning, and Fort Drum over the next five years, with the first unit expected to go live by September 30, 2028.
The Army has selected five companies, Antares Nuclear, BWXT Advanced Technologies, General Atomics, Radiant Industries, and Westinghouse, to build the reactors under Other Transaction Authority, a procurement mechanism that allows for faster deployment than traditional acquisition channels.
