US-China Talks on AI Safety May Impact Crypto Assets Worth Over $100 Billion

Share

The United States and China are planning their first bilateral talks on AI safety, which will take place in Beijing in mid-September. The meeting is expected to address risks from advanced AI systems, including AI-directed cyberattacks.

The U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will lead the American delegation, while Vice Premier He Lifeng or Politburo Standing Committee member Ding Xuexiang may represent China. However, the White House has not confirmed the meeting yet.

The talks are expected to cover cooperation on monitoring AI-directed cyberattacks and sharing information between AI labs in both countries. The discussions will also touch upon the cyber capabilities of future models and U.S. allegations that Chinese companies used distillation to reproduce capabilities from American systems.
