US Crypto Regulation Delayed as Lawmakers Work on Amendment

Share

Regulation of cryptocurrencies in the US is still an ongoing process as the Clarity Act continues to face delays. The bill aims to clarify US cryptocurrency regulation, and lawmakers are working on amendments to address concerns from law enforcement groups.

Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, along with the National Association of Assistant U.S. Attorneys and the National District Attorneys Association, expressed support for an amendment that targets parts of the bill protecting developers or companies from being prosecuted for illegal acts committed by third parties on platforms they built.

The new version of the bill circulating among lawmakers includes ethics rules that would ban public officials and their family members from issuing or promoting cryptocurrencies. This is in response to concerns raised by some lawmakers about the potential for abuse.

Despite the progress, discussions on the bill are still ongoing, with Republicans and Democrats working together to find a solution. The Clarity Act passed the House last year but has been deadlocked over new bill language since 2026.
