US Demand Plummets as CLARITY Act Fails to Advance in Senate
Bitcoin demand in the US is under pressure following the failure of the CLARITY Act to advance in the Senate. The act's inability to pass has led to a decrease in demand for Bitcoin, causing the Coinbase Premium Index to hit its lowest level since August 16th.
The index measures the difference in price between Coinbase's and Binance's BTC/USDT pairs, with a negative premium indicating a comparative lack of demand from Coinbase traders compared to Binance users. The premium has spent much of 2026 in the red, underscoring the exodus of investor capital as Bitcoin fell from its latest all-time highs.
Onchain analyst Willy Woo noted that the divergence in seller behavior between Coinbase and non-US exchanges intensified around the vote, with Binance seeing a increase in net buyer volume while Coinbase saw continued selling pressure. Woo described this scenario as 'bullish', indicating a potential long-term bullish trend for Bitcoin.
