US Forces Disable Three Tankers in Economic Retaliation Against Iran
The United States has taken economic action against Iran in response to missile attacks on US Navy warships. On September 5, 2026, American forces permanently disabled two crude oil tankers and completely destroyed a third near Iranian waters.
The targeted vessels were the M/T Downy, which was disabled off Kharg Island, and the M/T Stark 1, which was disabled near Jask. The M/T Kylo, also known as Noxen, was sailing without cargo and was completely destroyed after its crew was directed to abandon ship.
The Joint Maritime Information Center reported that crews aboard all three vessels were warned before US forces executed the strikes. CENTCOM confirmed no casualties among tanker personnel.
