The US government's Bitcoin holdings just took a significant step forward. The House Financial Services Committee advanced the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Bill, which authorizes a secure storage facility for the government's BTC assets.

Conner Brown, Executive Director at the Bitcoin Policy Institute, hailed this as a 'genuinely historic step' in Bitcoin policy, marking the first federal committee approval of legislation to manage the US government's BTC holdings.

The bill, known as ARMA (American Reserve Modernization Act), aims to secure the Bitcoin already held by the US government and utilize it as a strategic national asset. Rep. Bryan Steil strongly backed the bill, citing cybersecurity vulnerabilities and inadequate federal accounting due to 'fragmented and inconsistent custody' of seized Bitcoin.

The bill will now be placed on the House legislative calendar after being ordered to be reported favorably by a 28-21 vote. It must still pass a floor vote in both the House and Senate, followed by President Donald Trump's signature to become law.
