US House Advances Bill to Create Strategic Bitcoin Reserve
The US House Financial Services Committee has advanced the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026, which would create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and set separate rules for other digital assets held by the government.
According to the bill's text, the Treasury Department would have 180 days after enactment to establish two distinct federal holdings: a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a Digital Asset Stockpile. The separation is explicit in the bill, rather than treating Bitcoin and other digital assets as one pool.
The bill locks reserve Bitcoin for at least 20 years, prohibiting the government from selling, swapping, auctioning or encumbering it during that period.
