US Navy Airstrike Hits Iranian Wedding Celebration, Killing Five

A US Navy airstrike targeting a communications complex in southern Iran went tragically wrong on September 1, killing five people and injuring at least 68 others. The strike hit the coastal town of Kuhestak in Hormozgan province, roughly 135 to 150 meters from the intended target.

The incident has raised questions about the limits of precision-guided warfare, as modern munitions like the Boeing SLAM-ER are designed to hit targets with accuracy measured in single-digit meters. When one of those weapons lands on a wedding 150 meters from its intended target, that premise takes a hit.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has maintained that all designated targets in the operation were military in nature, stating there was no intention to strike civilian locations. Iran's government condemned the strike as a war crime, pointing to the civilian death toll as evidence of indiscriminate targeting.
