US Sanctions Hamas-Linked Entities for $2 Million Sham Charity Scheme
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on several individuals and entities linked to Hamas's military wing for allegedly using sham charities and cryptocurrency channels to move over $2 million in funds.
The designations were made under the US core counterterrorism sanctions authority, and all property and interests in property of the designated persons that are in the United States or in the possession or control of US persons are blocked and must be reported to OFAC.
The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said it was working with the FBI and local law enforcement partners, including the New York Police Department, to expose and disrupt Hamas's exploitation of the charitable sector and dismantle key nodes of its financial infrastructure.
