Venmo Crypto Services Restricted to US-Based Accounts

Venmo's cryptocurrency services are available in all US states except Hawaii and where otherwise prohibited by law. Despite Hawaii's licensing barrier being removed in 2024, Venmo has not enabled crypto services there.

The platform requires users to verify their identity with a Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number to access crypto features on personal accounts.

Venmo supports seven digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Solana, among others. The platform has a tiered fee structure, decreasing as transaction sizes increase, but a spread fee applies on top of the transaction fee for all purchases and sales, except for PayPal USD.

Users in Hawaii or outside the US have several alternatives for purchasing cryptocurrency through consumer payment platforms. Standalone exchanges like Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini operate with broader geographic coverage, and Revolut supports more than 200 cryptocurrencies across over 35 countries.
