Verona Unveils verUSD Stablecoin for AI Agent Payments with $100M in Commitments
Verona has launched verUSD, a stablecoin it claims is the first built for AI agent payments. According to the company's announcement on September 28, verUSD arrives with over $100 million in commitments from ecosystem partners including Animoca Ventures and Figment Capital.
The $100 million figure includes more than $60 million in contracted revenue that will flow through verUSD as payments, as well as capital pledged by partners. Verona says the stablecoin is meant for agents that pay for verified data and settle transactions.
verUSD is live on multiple chains including Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, Arbitrum, Celo, and Solana, with more to follow in the coming weeks. It's issued through Brale, a FinCEN-registered money services business, and is backed by dollar reserves held at regulated US financial institutions.
Verona's pitch for verUSD differs from the usual script, where a stablecoin launches and then hunts for users. The company says it has settled payments in USDC for four years across projects on its infrastructure, and that those teams can swap to verUSD with little effort.
